Once again friends sharing a short homily. Today we have listened to the first reading from one of the wisdom books, especially the book of Sirach. In which he talks about how we can recognize fruits, virtues in different ways. But particularly in the word of man, because the word shows his mentality. In the second reading we hear St. Paul in his letter to the Corinthians where he truly invites us not to be afraid of the uncertain things of our future, such as death, because our Lord Jesus Christ has conquered death and therefore makes us also victorious by putting on the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, St. Paul reminds us that the uncertainty of our future endeavors will not be in vain, for they are part of our Lord.

In the Gospel of Luke, we hear Jesus say that there is no bad tree that produces good fruit, that a man is known by what he speaks, because his heart dictates it, therefore, few men can bear good fruit without also speaking it. On the other hand, we hear Jesus tell people to stop the hypocrisy of judging what others do and look at what we do as well. Meditating on these readings of our Sunday, I thought how easy it is sometimes that we get carried away by an appearance, by a nice word and we do not see the fruits of those we are listening to. Today the world listens to hundreds and hundreds of speeches. Many of them empty of coherence, full of hatred and only sowing division.

And we are probably tired of listening to them, but we may also fall for some of them. Yet this is where the gospel comes in and confounds us, for it asks us to judge the tree by its fruit. It is true that many trees can bear fruit but not all of them are sweet or good for our bodies. The same is true of those words of men that offer us many things, but the fruit will not be good. It is easy to judge from words, from experience, but it is more difficult to confront our own actions. So now it is better to see our reality, to see the fruits that are offered to us and therefore to decide which is good for us.

That is why today we should not fill our hearts with false words or promises, that following the example of our Lord Jesus we can make a true examination of conscience that frees us from unnecessary burdens, because to live criticizing, looking for faults in others, tires us, annoys us and makes us live with pressures, disappointments and anger. It dries up our life, it does not allow us to live the gift of life that God gives us and therefore our fruit becomes bitter and nobody wants to get close to a tree with bitter fruit, therefore, living in this way distances us from people and valuable moments in life.

Therefore, dear friends, let us not fill our hearts with envy, anger, criticism towards others, because that does not allow us to bear good fruit and we only fill our hearts with evil and therefore our words end up being painful for others. Let us learn to live a life full of conscience, where we can evaluate our steps and judge them under the eyes of Jesus who asks us to live a full life and with a heart full of love, forgiveness, truth and justice, which will be transformed into fruits for the construction of the kingdom of God and his justice. Wishing you a wonderful Sunday and greetings in Jesus, the missionary of the father.
